This article drew me unto an instant flight of fancy to a faraway future. What is to happen to the bold souls that make the choice to have their minds preserved digitally for eternity? Will their thoughts be always free to roam and commingle (will they have any rights?), will they be imprisoned avatars, together in a ghetto or in abject solitude, or will they be forced to ‘exist’ in clandestinity or perhaps be utterly obliterated at some point? How many and for how long will they choose to remain ‘on’?
Time to go grab a cold soft drink… this whole business of pondering on the fate of ‘digital people’ makes me thirsty and somehow [inexplicably] brings to mind Pascal’s Memorial and its metaphysical ethics.
